His father was the Sultan Akhmed the First and his mother was the Sultana Koesem. He was born in Istanbul on the 5th of November, 1616, and died on the 18th of August, 1647,.. His reign lasted eight years, between 1640 and 1648.
He was tall, strong and light brown bearded. His mother did her best to bring up and educate him well.
He was by no means out of his mind as some vindictive authors of his time stated. He took power on his brother's, Sultan Amurat the Fourth. death, and prayed Allah in the following words:
"Thank Allah for considering me His poor slave worthy for such a dignitary. 0 Allah the Gracious! I beg You, let us always be in goodness!"
Sultan Ibrahim Khan was the only man in the Ottoman Dynasty at the time when he sat on the throne. A year after his being enthroned. Muhammed the Fourth and the others came to world, and thus the Great Family saved to cease. In the beginning of his reign, he struggled with the Janissary ruffians, but in the course of time, he was not able to escape to be influenced by sycophants. The ugly slanderings about him were lies invented by his assassinsto prove themselves to be right.
Sultan Ibrahim was suffering from chronic headache. The famous choroniclers, Pechevee and Evliya Chelebi spent last times of their lives in his time.
In 1645, the Cretean War broke out with the Venetians: in the same year, Hania and Resmo
were captured. In 1646, the Candie Citadel was besieged, and it was seized in 1648: in that year, a new rebellion arose and the Sultan Ibrahim was dethroned and murdered (May Allah have mercy upon his soul!)
The famous poet Rouhi-ee Baghdadees • Abdoullah Sinobee, the annotator of Phousous, expired in his era.
He had eight sons named Mehmed the Fourth, Suleiman the Second, Akhmed the Second. Orkhan, Bayezid, Djikhangir, Selim and Murad: his daughters were timmii Grilsum Sultana, Peikan Sultana, Atike Sultana, Aishe Sultana and Gevkherkhan Sultana.
