SULTAN MUSTAFA THE SECOND

(1664 - 1704 )

He was born in Istanbul. He had a st ong. education. He issued a firman on the third day of his enthronement to declare information abou the things he would accomplish. "We have forbidden the enjoyment and comfort of life to outset -es". said the humble Sultan in his writing. Yet read the famous writing that he had written to one of his Viziers: "I do never need trousseaus and treausers. I even eat dry bread at times when necessary. I sacrifice my own spirit willingly for the sake of the Religion. I endure all sorts of troubles. I do neverli give up a mobilization unless the service towards my people has been completed thoroughly. Most certainly, I take part in a battle personally."

In his era the Island of Saktz was recaptured. A number of valuable victories were won in marine battles. In 1695 the triumph of Lugosh was gained, and the Russian Czar, Petro the Great, was put to rout. Howbeit, the castle of Azoph fell after a year In 1696 some five hundred of soldiers resisted against the Russian Army of one hundred thousand troops for two years.

Against the German the Victory of Olash was won. Great and definite victories were gained at the fronts of Poland, Germany and Venice. However, the regrettable event mentioned as the I Defeat of Zenta in history, in which some thirty thousand of Turkish soldiers were martyrized, also took place in that era.

The Agreement of Karlophcha was made in 1699. A riot broke out in Istanbul in 1703. That riot grew larger and larger, and Sultan Mustafa the , Second was dethroned. He passed away four months after the rebellion had burst out. He was in his 39's at the time of his decease. He was in­terred into his tomb next to Yeni Cami (the New Mosque). (May Allah have mercy upon his sour).
The well-known and famous Calligrapher Haphiz Othman Effendi (I.C. 1110) and the Sheikh Seyyid Mehmed Effendi were the noted personages who expired in this time.

He had nine sons whose names were Mahmud he First, Osman the Third, Akhmed the Third. Alimet the Little, Huseyin, Mehmed, Murad and Osman.
His eleven daughters were: ilmmuglilsum, Aishe Emetullah, Entine, Rukiye, Safiye, Zahide, Fatma, Zeyneb and Zahide.
