SULTAN AHMED THE THIRD

(1673- 1736)

Sultan Ahmed the Third was tall, black eyed, falcon-like nosed and light-brown fleshed. He was a calligrapher and poet; he wrote poems under the pseudonym of Nedjib, besides, he was interested in musics, and he had vast knowledge about it.
In his time, the city of Oran was re-captured from Spain. In 1711, the Prut War was made with Russia. and the Russian forces were put to flight and an agreement was concluded with the Russian Czardom. The visit of the Swedish King to Turkey and his being guest for four years also occurred in that time.

Azoph was gained back from the Russians; in 1715, Morea was taken back from the Venetians, in 1718 the Agreement of Pasarophcha was made with Germany and Venice. Then, the famous age called "Lale Devri" (the Tulip Age) began.
In 1727, the first Turkish Printing Press was opened. In 1722, Daglustan was subjected to the Ottoman Empire. In 1723, the Iranian War broke out and five of the great provinces of Persia were occupied, and at the end of the war, the Hemedan Pacification was made. Next, the Iranian Empire took back some of the conquered places.

On the 28 th of September, in 1730, the Rebellion of Patrona Khalil arose. Sultan Akhmet he Third was conscious of the perilous situation and, for that reason, he self-sacrificed his  suzerainity and transferred it to his nephew, the Sultan Mahmoud the First, and after some time, he passed away when he was 62 years old (May Allah have mercy upon his soul!)
