SULTAN ABDULHAMID THE FIRST

(1725 - 1789)

His mother had him have a good education. He went over all the existing chronicles at his time, in addition to this, he was occupied in calligraphy. He was very courteous and sensivite. He made a great deal of reforms and developments during his era. His being the emperor in the "Downfall Era" of the Great Ottoman Empire did not affect the prestige of his eminent personage. He did not give the Bahshish (gratuity) of Accession to the throne for the first time.breaking the imperial traditions.

Some important events of his era are as follows:
In 1775, the Persian-Ottoman War started and ended in 1779. The both sides did not gain any advantages from that warfare save the bloodshed.
In 1787, the German War began and the Germans lost the war, in the beginning of which they had great expectations. In 1779, the Pacification of Ainalikawak was made, in 1783, the Crimean Principality was ruined.
In 1787, the Russian-Ottoman War broke out anew. In 1788, the victory of Sebes was won agains the German Empire. After that victory, Abdul-Hamid was given the surname of Ghazi (Combatant).

The Oezi Fortress fell and in that tragic defence, the Germans, after seizing the citadel, slayed all the residents, both the civilians and the soldiers. to a man. Thus, the German troops conquered the Fort of Oezi having slaughtered twenty-five thousand inhabitants of it. Hearing of this, Abd-ul-Hamid the First had a stroke of paralysis. and after a short while, he expired at the age of 64. His holy body was committed into his tomb at Bakhche-kapi (May Allah have mercy upon his soul!I Among the eminent leading members of the Succession of the Descendants of Nakshibend, Their Exalted Holinesses Shems4id-Din Habeeboullah deceased in that time in 1195, in the Mohammedan calendar.

His sons' names were Mustafa the Fourth, Mahmoud the Second, Nousred. Muhammed, Akhmed, and Solyman: his daughters'names were Esma. Emine, Rabia, Saliha, Melikshah, Hibetoullah and Zekiye.
