Abdulmecid was born in Istanbul. His father endeavored for his being trained and educated well. He was a little weak. He was very intelligent. compassionate, affectionate and well-behaved. He was in his sixteens at his accession. He pursued new developments closely and desired them to be applied in the Ottoman State immediately.
Some significant events occurred in his era were as follows:
In 1839, the Imperial Decree of Gtilliane v. s issued. In 1846, Mustafa Resid Pacha became Grand-Vizier. He made a lot of progress in the educational field, many a professional schools were opened during his time. In 1848. because of Hungarian Revolt, thousands of people from, Hungary took refuge with Turkey. In Wallachia and Maldavia some riots broke out. The question of holy places arose.
In 1853,the Russian War commenced. The unexpected attack of Sinoppe took place. In 1854. the Muscowites had great losses on land. The n ell-known Silistre Defense was accomplished and the Russian forces were routed. The Battalion of 'lerkoeyu was won. France and England stood bv Turkey and a landing was made against Crimea.
In 1855, Siwastopol was seized. Telegram an:: railway lines were made. In 1856. the Pacifieatior of Paris was concluded. Great behefits were am rei against the Russian Empire.
Abdulmecid had the Palace of Dolmabahche and Medjidiye Mosque. at Ortakoy. constructed.
On the 25th, of June, 1861, he died of tuberculosis as his father did. He was of 38 years of age at the time when he expired. His holy body was committed into his mausoleum in the yard oi the Sultan Selim Mosque at Fatih. (May Allah Have Mercy Upon His Soul!)
