SULTAN ABDULAZIZ HAN

(1830 - 1876 )

Sultan Abdulaziz han was born in Istanbul He was educated extremely well and had a I, as.t knowledge in literature. He was tall. round faced. light brown bearded and broad shouldered. He had a huge and imposing body. He was so much strong that he could wrestle with world champions c-f wrestling. He was a composer, poet and painter at the same time.

He realized many a work for the public improvements of the country. Mostly, he himself drew the designs of the men-of-war he had made.

Some of the significant events of his reigning era:
He started journeys first to Egypt in I S6.3, and to Europe in 1867.
In 1868, the Council of State was established In 1869. the Suez Canal was opened. In 187l.Mid­had Pasha became Grand Vizier, however. he was dismissed since he did not inform that there was deficit in the Imperial budget and since thus his lie became known by everybody.

In 1874, Husein Avni Pasha was made Sadr-ui­Azam. When he was discharged a year after. that vindictive man's grudge against the Padishah grew more and more. Abd-iil-Aziz was living hard times in default of real patriotic high officials, and he could not make a decision to entrust whom with task.

By provocation of Midhad Pasha, Mahmoud Pasha and Huseyin Pasha, who had been proved to have no capability, a political demonstration turn­ed out to be a rabellion, and Sultan Abd-ul-Aziz Khan was deposed, and then they assassinated him having the public opinion be mistaken bs im­posing that the holy Padishah had committed suicide.

That great Sultan placed the Ottoman State militarily in the second or third position among the other countries of the whole world. That that prominent Padishah who was extremely diligeng. zealous, religious and who had great expectations for his country and nation in the future was deposed by those low-charactered men was in fact a dreadful calamity in such hard-time days of the Great Othmanh Empire. All his personel properties were pillaged by plunderers.On the 5th of June, at the time he was slaved. he was 46 years old. His holy corpse was commit­ted into the mausoleum of Sultan Mahmoud at Pivanyolou. (May Allah The Omniscient Have Mercy Upon His Soul!)
