Chelebi Sultan Mehemed was born in 1389 and died on May the 26th in 1421. His father was the Sultan Bayezid and his mother was Dewlet Khatoun. His sultanate lasted eizht ears. between 1413 and 1421.
He was of medium height, round faced, frowning eyebrow ed. white fleshed, ruddy cheeked, broad chested and strong. He was rather courageous and dynamic; he would wrestle and could pull the stiffest bow-strings. In his time, he participated in battles in person and got wounded exactly fourty times.
His golden embroidered cap wadded with turban seemed rather good-looking on his head. He wore a gown of which inside was furred, and the collars were stiff.
He was just to the Christian as he was to the Mus9.1L-ri an s .
He had his education of science at Brusa Palace, and after that, he was appointed to Amassia Principality as Governor. General and during his governorship he obtained a good knowledge about the administration of the Empire.
In some sense, he may be considered as the second founder of the Othmanli Empire due to his long-lasting successful struggles and victories:
First of all. he fought with his brothers just for the sake of the unity of Anatolia. In fact, he realized the solidarity getting rid of his brothers &Heiman Chelebi in 1410, and Mousa Chelebi in 1413. As soon as he took the power into his hands and became the one man, he attempted to take the surrounding khanates under his dominancy. As a result of his assaults, he took the Bey of the Caramaniads as prisoner of war after he had wared with them, and after making him swear that he would no more disturb or cause any harm to the Mussulmans, he let him
free. Besides, he subjected the Principality of Djandar to the Empire. In 1415, the first naval warfare was made; in 1416 and 1417, many an attacks were made against European courtries and won a good deal of triumphs. In 1419, the Turkish troops got across the river Danube and the Mayor of Wallachia was put to death in a war. and his brother was appointed in his place The Djandar Princi‑
the Mayor of Wallachia was put to death in a war, and his brother was appointed in his place. The Djandar Principality was so subjected completely to the Osmanlis. In 1420, a man called Sheikh Bedr-ud-din, who is today regarded as the founder of Communism, existed with the ideas very much similar to those of the Communism. That wicked man knowing well the Islamic sciences as well, promised the poor to make them rich and told the non-Muslims that also their religions were right, and in that way, he gathered a large number of men around him. He caused a great deal of important harms in different places. Event: ually, his adherers were dispersed and he himself was arrested and tried in the court of justice. He confessed his crime to the magistrate and he in person wanted to be hanged, and the capital penalty was executed.
Sultan Mehmed the Gentleman struggled with and got rid of the prince who had been rumoured that he was in agreement with Tamberlane against himself. In 1412, he passed away in his thirtytwo's at the time when he was found at Edirne. His holy corpse was brought to Bursa and interred into the Yeshil Tfirbe (Green Tomb) (May Allah the Everlasting have mercy upon his soul!)
Sultan Mehmed Khan made Bayezid Pasha called in his delirium of death and said to him: "I have appointed my son the successor. Yot, should always be faithful and obedient to my son as you have been to me throughout my sultanate. I want you now to bring him here immediately for I can not get out of bed anymore. In case I die before he comes, you never mention to anybody of my death till the time he arrives here..
But, whilst his son was yet at the city of Amassta on his way, the Sultan Mahomed (Mehmed) the Gentleman died on the 26th. of May in 1421. He was the first Ottoman Sultan whose death was kept secret.
The writer of the work Ta'riphat (Descriptions), Seyyid Ali DjOrdjanee, Aflame Medjd-iid-din Firouzabadee, the author of Kaamous-ou-Mouldyt (the Dictionary of Milieu) were the great personalities in the time of the Sultan Mehmet Chelebi.
